Keith and Lynn Holman had been orchardists for 30 years before they started Spiller Estate fruit winery in 2003, and in early 2004 they purchased a vineyard 1 ½ km south of Spiller on Upper Bench Road. There they established Mistral Estate Winery, which opened in May 2005.
In Sept 2004, they purchased the winery next door to Mistral - Benchland Vineyards, in business since 1999, and renamed it Stonehill Estate Winery. Benchland was the first vineyard in BC to plant the Austrian varietal Zweigelt, fast becoming a cult favourite because of its properties of low histamine levels, and therefore not causing the uncomfortable reactions of headaches and facial flushing many people experience from red wine.
In Sept 2005 the Holmans added the long established and very popular Lang Vineyards to their holdings. In 2007 they opened Soaring Eagle Estate Winery on Naramata Road and in 2008 Zero Balance Vineyards, next door to Soaring Eagle, and K Mountain in Keremeos were added to the portfolio.
